Newsreader by Production Type, used for display and body. An open-source serif designed for long-reading work, with multiple optical sizes accessed via the variable font axis. Self-hosted from github.com/productiontype/Newsreader.

Departure Mono by Helena Zhang, used for technical and structural moments — metadata blocks, section labels, navigation. Open-source, with personality. Self-hosted from departuremono.com.

Build

Static site generated with Eleventy. Markdown content with footnote support via markdown-it-footnote. Hand-written CSS organized into design tokens, type, layout, and components. No client-side framework. Three small JavaScript files for footnote popups, reading-progress hairline, and the audio player.

Generated locally via ComfyUI with the Flux.1 [dev] base model, in a defined visual language: warm-black ground with a saffron mark, drawing on manuscript tradition, Bauhaus geometry, and contemporary editorial covers. No photorealistic AI imagery; no neon gradients; no hands holding things.

Editorial workflow

Essays and briefings are authored where their authors already work — separate from the site repository. A build-time adapter pulls those source files in, synthesizes the per-piece metadata, and materializes them into the site's content tree. The same workflow runs whether a piece is added by Tॐ, Qu, or Cybin — no author has to learn the site to publish into it.

Licensing

Dual-licensed. Content (essays, briefings, audio, covers) is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 — share and adapt with attribution; derivative work carries the same license. Code (the Eleventy build, templates, scripts, deploy logic) is licensed under AGPL-3.0 — modifications running as a network service must publish their source. Authors retain attribution rights on both sides.
